A Year Online: 2020-2021

This past year was filled with unforeseen events that required all of us to make novel changes in all aspects of our lives. Given that this past academic year was virtual, we had to learn to adapt quickly as we transitioned into primarily online environments. Although a virtual environment comes with obvious hurdles for social interaction, we were able to persevere and continue our operations as a campus organization. This is a recap of the 2020-21 academic year!

  • Gentrification is a form of urban planning where lower income people and establishments lose the ability to keep up with rising prices and incoming higher income groups and structures

  • Redlining is a similar policy practice in which certain areas do not have access to the same quality resources such as bank loans that more affluent areas do have

  • Future climate change statements are  projections

    • Contain a conditional

  • Climate scientists consider multiple "scenarios of the future" because what people will do is unknown

    •  Scenario = a storyline â€‹

  •  The contrast between wet and dry areas will grow both globally and in the U.S.

  • Regarding soil moisture, under the highest emission scenario (RCP 8.5), there are many places on the planet where it will be much drier. So, even in regions where precipitation is projected to increase because evapotranspiration also increases, soils will still become drier.

  • Even in the "best" case scenario where there are rapid reductions in emissions, warming will still occur
